Types of Instruction Sessions
Types of Library Instruction
A. M. Al-Refai Library offers Instruction sessions all through the year, at various levels, and in many areas of library and research skills, including:
· Literature of specific disciplines
· Explanation of and demonstration of Online Public Access Catalog, key databases, journals, and eBooks
· Illustration of various Research tools
· Description of various Referencing styles, particularly APA
While instructions are normally conducted in the Library Lab: N2-102, some of the MBA sessions are also held in individual classrooms, as required by the faculty. We offer varied options for these sessions:
Individual Consultations: This is a one-to-one session conducted in the Library upon prior appointment with Reference Librarians.
Undergraduate Student Workshops: The Library team works closely with the faculty to customize sessions that particularly focus on specific disciplines, and/or familiarization of library resources, in general.
Graduate Student Workshops: These sessions are normally conducted in classrooms, and mainly focus on resources that facilitate advanced research and the use of TurnItin (plagiarism checking tool).
Student Orientations Sessions: Each year there are many new students joining the University; as such, these sessions provide a general overview of Library services, resources, and website navigation.
Community User Sessions: The Library receives many important visitors both local and international, from time-to-time. Upon request, orientations are conducted to introduce visitors to the Library website, and its resources. A brief walking tour inside the Library is conducted to highlight the various areas of Library print collections.
