Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

The Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) contains bibliographic records for books, eBooks, journals, and audiovisual materials available in the Library. It is updated continually as material is ordered, received, and cataloged. The catalog is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You can search the catalog through various indexes such as Words, Author, Title, Subject, Series, Periodical Title, ISBN and ISSN. The status of user's Library account is available via "My Account".

Information and Reference Service

In keeping with the Library's mission of contributing to student success, the reference service focuses on instructing users to manage independently and at their own pace in using our electronic, print, or audio-visual resources.

Types of Reference Service

• Assistance in finding the answer to specific reference questions.
• Assistance in developing research strategies for  assignments, reports and term papers.
• Instruction in the use of the Library and its resources.
• Orientation to the Library through tours, tutorial sessions, subject specific programs, etc.

Ask a Librarian Service

Ask a Librarian is an online information service available on the Library homepage to answer questions pertaining to Library resources, research needs, and other related topics. You can also ask questions by e-mail, phone, or in-person. Queries will be answered within 24 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.

LibGuides

LibGuides a web 2.0 content management system provides one-stop easy access to user’s research and learning resources. They comprise a collection of research guides, subject guides and many other useful sources which the users will be able to benefit from. In addition, they offer assistance on citing sources, learning to research paper and much more. The guides are compiled subject wise and are regularly updated by the Library staff. Library Instruction and Information Literacy

GENERAL ORIENTATION: Library staff orient new students to the facilities, collection and services on a walking tour of the library. Faculty can arrange for their classes through the Reference Librarian.
INFORMATION SKILLS SESSIONS: The Reference Librarian conducts sessions to promote Information Literacy by introducing students to the research process and to the use of the Internet, Catalog, online Databases, and LibGuides to locate and retrieve information. The schedule for training sessions are posted on the Library website. Bookings may be required.
COURSE-SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION: Staff also provide subject or course-related orientations on request. Faculty are encouraged to contact a Reference Librarian to arrange special library instruction for their students.

Cabell’s Directories

Cabell’s Directories help professors, graduate students and researchers to publish their manuscripts in academic journals. To achieve this objective Cabell Publishing maintains current contact information and websites for a large number of journals. Cabell's searchable database provides: type of review, number of external review, acceptance rate, ISSN, submission process, and more.

Open Access Resources

Open Access Resources is a comprehensive online guide promoting open access and publicly available on the Library website via LibGuides@ http://libguides.gust.edu.kw. The OAR guide provides access to a huge variety of open access content namely Books, Databases, Journals, Repositories, Theses & Dissertations, Visual Archives, and Open Education.

Access to eResources

The Library provides a 24-hour access to a wide range of bibliographic and full-text databases, via the Library homepage. Visit the eResources site to access the Library's electronic resources.

Trial Resources

The Library periodically offers trials of new databases to allow faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to examine their suitability. Depending on the feedback obtained, and the cost involved, some of the new databases may be added to the Library collection. An email is normally sent to notify all users on the offers.

GUST Faculty Research Publications (GFRP)*

A bibliographic/full-text database, which stores research publications of the GUST faculty. The Library by means of GFRP promotes publications of GUST faculty members and increases the awareness of faculty research.

Institutional Repository

Institutional Repository is a digital repository consisting of the following:
Exam Repository: An archived collection of past exam and class test papers dating back to the year 2007-08.
eReserve: An archived collection of articles used by GUST faculty for research purpose.
News Repository: A digital archive of GUST news published in periodicals, newspapers and on the World Wide Web.
Student Projects: A collection of archived internship projects presented by students of Business & MIS.

*The GFRP, Exam Repository, eReserve, Student Projects can be accessed by use of GUST ID and Password only.

EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS)

EDS provides a fast, streamlined search through a single search box, to Books, eBooks, and full text articles leveraged from the leading EBSCO host research platform and databases, as well as from key information providers.

Off-Site Services

The Library provides off-campus access to all its subscribed electronic resources only to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff via EZProxy. To avail the remote access facility, visit the eResources section and click on any of the databases; you will be prompted to use your GUST ID and Password. Once you have been authenticated, you will remain so, until the browser is closed.
