Student Borrowing

 

Library Card

Students who are currently registered with GUST automatically become Library members, and the GUST smart ID is the Library card.
You can borrow a maximum of 5 books for a period of 15 days.

 

Recalls and Renewals
All Library materials are subject to recall when another user places a hold (request) on the material(s). The original user will then have three days from the date of notice to return the recalled items regardless of the original due date. Items on hold are checked-out on a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be recalled.

Renewals may be made in person at the circulation desk or online via the Library online catalog. Items may be renewed up to two times online. After the second renewal, users must renew items in person at the Library's circulation desk.

My Account: Log in to your personalized account by clicking on "My Account" in the Library Catalog. Enter your GUST smart ID and 12 digit civil ID numbers, click 'Login' to:
• Check your profile/circulation information.
• Renew books (a maximum of two renewals is allowed).
• Place hold requests.

Fines and Penalties

1. Overdue Fine

Students are charged a fine of 100 Fils per day and per book.

2. Damaged or Lost Items

If a user loses an item, they will be charged the replacement cost of the item, a KD 10/- processing fee and any overdue fines that apply.

Reserve Materials
To check-out reserve item, users must present their University ID cards at the circulation desk. One item per user may be checked-out at one time.

  • Reserve materials are due two hours from the time of check-out. Items for overnight loan may be checked-out between 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and must be returned the following day at 8:00 a.m.
  • Users have to return reserve items to the circulation desk. Items returned to any other location will not be counted as returned until they are back in reserve. Users are responsible for returning any reserve item they take to the copy center.
  • The heavy demand for items placed on Reserve requires a strict overdue policy. No one is exempt or excused from overdue fines.
  • Late return
    • 250 Fils per hour / KD 1/- per day.   
  • Lost items
    • If users loses an item, they will be charged the replacement cost of the item, a KD 10/- processing fee and any overdue fines that apply.
    • The Library will consider a reserve item "LOST" if it is overdue for more than 15 working days.

Calculators (Regular, Scientific & Financial)

You may check-out calculators from the Library. The calculators are due two hours from the time of check-out, and must be returned in person to the Library circulation desk.
Late return
  • Overdue items are subject to a fine of KD 1/- per day.
  • Lost Items
    • If users lose a calculator, they will be charged the replacement cost of the item, and any overdue fines that apply; alternatively, they can replace the lost item, with a new one (same model) and pay any overdue fines that apply.

 

Audiovisual Circulation

You may check-out audiovisual materials from the Library. The loan period is 3 days and for a maximum of 1 audiovisual item.
  • CDs and DVDs are for Library use only.
  • All audiovisual items must be returned in person to the Library circulation desk.
  • Overdue items are subject to a fine of KD 1/- per day.
  • Lost Items
    • If a user loses an item, they will be charged the replacement cost of the item, a KD 10/- processing fee and any overdue fines that apply.

 

Non-Circulating Materials

Non-circulating materials cannot be taken out of the Library.
