Library Director represents GUST at Gale Symposium in Dubai

As an initiative to Professional Development, the Library Director Mrs. Shobhita Kohli attended a 2-day visit to the Gale Symposium: Middle East at the Le Meridien in Dubai.

The Symposium was organized by GALE Cengage Learning who had selected librarians from across the globe to attend this event, share challenges and solutions for 21st century libraries and their end-users, and alongside discuss best practices on a range of library-related concerns.

The key topics discussed during the event were:

a.         Making the Library’s Middle Eastern, Sian, and African collections accessible for research, inspiration and enjoyment.

b.         Opening up access to content through partnerships

c.         Digitising Arabic: Early Printed Books from the British Library

d.         From File to screen: Making British Government Records globally accessible

e.         Sanghol Education Complex: transforming the lives of Indian youth through education

f.          New models of support for new models of scholarship: A case study

g.         Saudi Digital Library: gateway to the world of knowledge

On the whole the event was enlightening, particularly in the context of how technology will change the face of education and research across the globe.
