GUST's 8th Annual Book and Information Fair

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), Kuwait opened its 2-day Book and Information Fair on Monday March 05, 2012 in the foyer outside the GUST auditorium. The Fair was officially opened by Dr. Shuaib, President of GUST and Dr. Joel Glassman, Associate Provost and Director International Studies and Programs at GUST’s partner University, the University of Missouri – St. Louis, in the presence of participants, general public, GUST team members and students gathered for the occasion.

                        

Dr. Shuaib welcomed Dr. Glassman and the visitors and thanked the Library Director Shobhita Kohli for her contributions to the University and also the Library team for their continuing support to the Library. He praised the Library efforts in organizing the Fair and making it more successful with each passing year. Dr. Robert Cook, Vice-President for Academic Affairs also spoke during the event and highlighted the importance of the event for the University in keeping up with the latest developments in both online resources and publications.

                         

The Fair, annually organized by the A. M. Al-Refai Library, included several leading publishing companies including: Cambridge, Cengage Learning HE, Cengage Learning ELT, Pearson Education, Pearson ELT, McGraw-Hill Education and Palgrave; as well as prominent online resource providers such as: Arabian Advanced Systems (EBSCO, ProQuest, ebrary, Safari, Literature Online), IEEE, Emerald, Springer, LexisNexis, Bankscope. Amongst the local participants were representatives from the U.S. Embassy, GUST Bookstore, Kuwait Bookshop, Center for Research and Studies in Kuwait, and Center for Child Evaluation and Teaching.

           

The Fair held every year provides leading publishers a platform to display the latest editions of books, and online catalogs. The event also provides opportunities to online service providers to introduce the latest products and innovations available in the world of technology. The visitors were able to review the latest editions of online software and textbook titles by leading publishers and information companies, in a variety of subject areas and had an excellent opportunity to network with the participants present at the event.
