GUST receives a signed copy of Professor Grigory I. Shishkin’s co-authored book

The A. M. Al-Refai Library in coordination with Dr. Ali Ansari organized the book-signing eventin the Library, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in the presence of Acting Vice-President, Deans, faculty and staff. The ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted by Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan, Dr. Ali Ansari, and Professor Shishkin, which was then followed by book signing of Prof. Shishkin’s book, ‘Robust Computational Techniques for Boundary Layers.’

Dr. Ansari spoke in honour of Professor Shishkin, a humble person first and then a leading Research Scientist at the famous Russian Academy of Sciences, and whose overall publications (journal papers, conference papers, books, etc.) are in excess of 600. Pointing out Prof. Shishkin’s highest order of appreciation, Dr. Ansari stated, ‘He is the inventor of the Shishkin Mesh (a mathematical concept), and his citations are in the 1000s; a google search of the Shsihkin mesh yields over 35000 hits.’

Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan, the Acting Vice-President at GUST, endorsed Dr. Ansari’s statement that Russians are known for taking theory forward and added that Russians have the expertise and are highly advanced in the field of mathematics.

Highlighting the reason for Prof. Shishkin’s visit, i.e. building a research team at GUST, Dr. Ansari stated that the significant research team would include 4 members from the College of Arts and Sciences. He specifically thanked Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan and the Research team for their immense support and without which, their project would not have moved forward.

Prof. Shihskin spoke very highly of GUST in general, and praised the spirit of the Research team and their enthusiasm. He expressed how happy he was to be at GUST and that it gave him great pleasure to be part of a powerful and capable research team, and with whom he wished to produce great results. Speaking of the Library he said, “it is the heart of the University and without its support researches cannot be successful.”

Group pictures were taken at the end, and refreshments were served to all the attendees of the event. It was a great opportunity for GUST Community to meet with Professor Shishkin and have a signed copy of his co-authored book.
