Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) celebrates Excelsior’s 10th anniversary

The A. M. Al-Refai Library at GUST in coordination with the Excelsior Committee released Excelsior’s tenth volume, on Monday, September 27, 2016 in the presence of GUST Management, faculty, staff and Excelsior members and contributors. The event was officially opened by Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan, VP for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ali Ansari, Dean- College of Arts and Sciences, and Ms. Shobhita Kohli, Library Director.    

Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan congratulated the Excelsior Committee members, especially Shobhita Kohli on the 10th anniversary and for the outstanding work in managing the Excelsior. He further expressed his pleasure on the quality of the content and wished that Excelsior continues to grow and that we could all be present to celebrate the 20th anniversary too. Dr. Al-Sharhan also thanked Dr. Ikram Elsherif, who is no longer part of the GUST Community, for her valuable support to GUST, and adding further that she will always be welcomed as a GUST family member. The 10th volume of Excelsior was a dedication to Dr. Ikram Elsherif for her continual contributions to Excelsior, over the years. A cake cutting ceremony was conducted in view of Excelsior’s 10th anniversary.

The Excelsior release was followed by the following book releases:

·         Challenges and Channels, Edited By: Dr. Ikram Elsherif

·         Al Muarada Al-Siyasah, By Dr. Abdulmohsen Jamal (Humanities & Social Sciences Dept.)

·         Ficciones Y Memorias, By: Dr. Angela M. Gonzalez Echeverry (Humanities & Social Sciences Dept.)

·         Women of Kuwait: Turning Tides, By: Ms. Chaitali Banerjee Roy (non-GUST member)

Excelsior is a publication produced by students, faculty and staff at GUST and released annually. It is available in the Library for circulation within the campus; a limited number of copies are also distributed off campus. The publication contains diverse collection of short stories and other prose, poetry, art, and combinations thereof, reflecting GUST’s creativity and innovation.

Group pictures were taken at the end, and refreshments were served to all the attendees of the event. It was a great opportunity for the Library to receive a signed copy of each of the released books.
