German Corner opens at Gulf University for Science & Technology

The Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) celebrated the German Corner opening on Sunday, May 05, 2013 in the A. M. Al-Refai Library.

His Excellency the German Ambassador Mr. Frank Marcus MANN and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Robert Cook officially opened the event. Also present at the opening were Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Assistant Dean, College of Business Administration and other members of the GUST Community, students and staff.

Dr. Cook welcomed the German Ambassador and the attendees of the event and said he was pleased at the introduction of the German Corner in the Library and that it was a step forward in introducing the GUST Community to yet another foreign language. He also said that the facility of borrowing books could be extended to the members of the German Community in Kuwait. On behalf of GUST, Dr. Robert Cook thanked the German Ambassador and requested him to say a few words. The German Ambassador in his speech welcomed and thanked the attendees, and GUST for its support to the German Corner initiative and specifically thanked Ms. Elvisa Alduaij for her efforts in coordinating with the Library in arranging the German Corner launch. He also notified the attendees about a German school that would be opening in Kuwait in the following year. Commenting on the collection, the Ambassador said that he would like to arrange for more variety and also an increase in the number of German books at the Library.

The A. M. Al-Refai Libray houses the German Corner in addition to a few other Corners and works closely with the respective Embassies in maintaining and promoting their books and audiovisual collections. On the occasion of the German Corner opening the Library had on display around 200 German books, a few of which were in Arabic too.
