Faculty Borrowing

Library Card

Full-time and part-time faculty, who are currently registered with GUST automatically become Library members, and the GUST smart ID is the Library card.

You can borrow a maximum of 10 books for a period of 1 month; however you may borrow books for teaching purpose as a department loan for one semester

Recalls and Renewals

All Library materials are subject to recall when another user places a hold (request) on the material(s). The original user will then have three days from the date of notice to return the recalled items regardless of the original due date. Items on hold are checked-out on a first-come-first-served basis and cannot be recalled.

Renewals may be made in person at the circulation desk or online via the Library online catalog. Items may be renewed up to two times online. After the second renewal, users must renew items in person at the Library's circulation desk.

My Account: Log in to your personalized account by clicking on "My Account" in the Library Catalog. Enter your GUST smart ID and 12 digit civil ID numbers, click 'Login' to:
• Check your profile/circulation information.
• Renew books (a maximum of two renewals is allowed).
• Place hold requests.

Returns and Fines

You are accountable for items borrowed on your ID cards. Books should be returned to the circulation desk on or before the due date. The Library will send users overdue notices as a reminder to return the books checked-out.

Damaged or Lost Items

If users lose an item (books or audiovisual materials), they will be charged the replacement cost of the item, and a KD 10/- processing fee.

Reserve Materials

Faculty can place items on reserve (books and articles) in the Library. The reserve system allows limited materials to receive maximum use by students for a particular class. To place items on reserve faculty must submit a filled–in Reserve Request Form along with the reserve material at the circulation desk. Please read the Reserve Policy and Copyright Policy for guidelines on placing materials on reserve.

Audiovisual Circulation

You may check-out audiovisual materials from the Library. The loan period is 5 days and for a maximum of 3 audiovisual items.

  • CDs and DVDs are for Library use only.
  • All audiovisual items must be returned in person to the Library circulation desk.

Non-Circulating Materials

Normally non-circulating materials cannot be taken out of the Library. However, in case of a pressing need, such materials may be checked out by a faculty member for a few hours or overnight.
