Training Sessions

The A. M. Al-Refai Library offers the following training sessions to support the instructional needs of faculty, staff and students at GUST. The dates listed below are tentative; to register for any of the below sessions, please send a filled-in Training Request Form to the Library Director.

Information Literacy

Information literacy (a.k.a Information Competence) is defined as the ability to access, evaluate, organize, and use information from a variety of sources effectively.

Sunday:      9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Thursday:   2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Databases

Learn how to create and execute a search strategy that will retrieve highly-relevant information using Library databases and e-journals for your economics class, your sociology project or for any other GUST course assignment.

Sunday:       10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.   

Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

The Online Library Catalog offers the ability to search the library database over the Web using a compatible browser, such as Internet Explorer 5+. It offers the ability to search different indexes such as words or phrase, title, author, subject, series, International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), and International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Learn to search the catalog by different indexes, retrieve user information, and find out how to access it from home or from within the GUST campus. 

A-to-Z

A-to-Z is a locator tool listing all the full-text eJournals available through the Library. It also includes print journal titles.

Learn how to access and search for specific journals by their name in the A-to-Z list of eJournals.

Turnitin

Turnitin, a plagiarism detection service, is subscribed by the Library to help students and educators to prevent the illegitimate use of Internet. It promotes originality in student work, improves student writing and research skills, encourages collaborative learning, and saves valuable instructor time.
